Beautiful antique and extremely well carved figure of a Japanese demon being bitten by a dog. The demon has little devil horns. His right hand is in a fist, it looks like he is going to strike the dog to release the grip on his arm. The demon's feet have claws instead of toe nails. This is an extremely rare subject I have never seen anything like this before. The carver of this ivory was a true artisan. One of the most unusual and well carved ivories we have ever had the pleasure to purchase and offer for sale. The figure measures 2-1/2 inches high, widest width 1-7/8 inches, depth 1-3/4 inches. Weight 68.1 grams. This is an extraordinary sculpture guaranteed to please the most particular collector or connoisseur. (Item #72886)
