Qing Dynasty,(1644-1911)A portrait sculpture of an important official or teacher. Probably a carving commissioned to be placed on a household or local shrine to honor the person portrayed. Seated in a horseshoe back chair and attired in a garment style suggesting the 19th C. The cover on the prayer box carved in the back is missing as are the contents. Traces of the original paint under heavy patina. Probably 1870 period. Height 12"
