Superb buddhist temple roof carving of a ShiShi mythical Fu Dog to protect the temple from calamity. Dated Meiji Period, c.1890 the wood is hinoki, japanese cypress, and it has been mounted on an antique block of japanese keyaki or japanese elm. The carving is very detail and the expression of the Shishi while being of a serious demeaner is also a bit playful. Great condition. Ask for shipping quote. (H: 24"; W:18")
