Serene and peaceful Kshitigarbha Bodhisattva or Jizo Bosatsu wood carving c.1920 Taisho Period with black lacquered robes and gold gilt chest and face. The Kshitigarbha Bodhisattva vowed to save all sentient beings in all six realms of rebirth between the time of Buddha's death and the appearance of Maitreya, the buddha of the future. The staff symbolizes his vow. This bosatsu is rare in that he has a halo with three sacred wishing gems. One hand is missing but other hand and feet in good condition. Comes in paulownia wood box.
