Circa 1925. Handsome, all original, Art Deco bar/cocktail cabinet. This fine early 20th century convertible cabinet starts out as a medium sized Asian influenced, decorated cabinet and easily unfolds into a very well designed bar. The painted side panels unfold to support the unfolded top, which is a beautiful birds eye maple with an inset of glass on which the drinks can be mixed without damaging the wood. From behind the bar there are sliding glass doors for easy access to the two interior shelves which can also be accessed from the front doors when the cabinet is folded, and a bottom shelf which has insets for liquor bottles. On the door interiors there are brackets for cocktail mixing tools with original pieces. In both design and detail this cabinet is a true master piece of Art Deco Chinoisere. All original hardware, glass and lightly re-polished finish, with original electric for an interior light. The wood is walnut and the floral decoration is hand-painted. The cabinet is in very good condition with only some small losses to the to the paint decoration. The loss to the paint looks much worse in the pictures than on the piece itself and I would say it looks good the way it is. Signed by the English maker, "Turnidge". Closed measurements are 42" tall x 33" wide x 18" deep, open measurements 56" wide x 41" tall. Price 2400.
