''Attitude is everything in the several Terrot bicycle posters Tamagno created at the turn of the century. In all of them a young lady stays way ahead of the competition, effortlessly distancing an airplane, besting a locomotive coming on at full speed, or cycling breezily through mountainous terrain, be she a blonde or, as seen here, a brunette. And though she can traverse a pass one handed, this feisty female - as is always the case in a Tamagno Terrot poster - doesnt neglect to let the competition know in no uncertain - if not precisely ladylike - terms who''s the champ. Terrot bikes were successful enough during the 1890s, but the firm really came into its own with motorcycles as of 1901, remaining in business until the 1960s with one of the best makes in France.'' (Rennert) Some of the other elements to note in this particular poster are the fact that the lady is riding astride the bike - which would make it a later version of a bicycle, because previous bikes were ridden sidesaddle, like horses. (It was considered improper for women to ride with something between their legs...). Also, the woman is ahead of the man, another thing which would have been unheard of prior....
