An annual, aromatic Mediterranean herb (Pimpinella anisum) in the parsley family, cultivated for its seedlike fruits and the oil obtained from them and used to flavor foods, liqueurs, and candies. 2. Anise seed'' It was a potent potable and is still available in many forms, in France and elsewhere. This poster, designed by Delval in the thirties is colorful and wonderful note only becuase of its size and unusual horizontality, but also because it uses a conceit that some poster artists (including Cappiello) often liked: the image on the bottle on the far right is the image of the poster itself.
