Purchased from an estate auction, this charming and colorful hunting print is plate 9 in a series of 12 prints, published on May 19th, 1863 in London, England by Messrs. Fores, 41 Piccadilly. The series is an ironic look at the very British tradition of ''going to the hounds'' and/or hunting on horseback. In the series, we first see the riders searching for lost stirrups and other pieces of equipment, getting lost in the brush, asking directions from peasants, etc. Meanwhile, the poor deer is being chased through thicket and brush - this plate shows the deer crashing into two country girls who are putting laundry out to dry. The image measure 9.5 x 15.5 inches, on a sheet which is roughly 11.5 x 17.5 inches. Margins show foxing but image is clear. This series is - in our opinion - hysterical, and would look great anywhere near horses or riders, or in a country home or hunting lodge. It will be shipped flat. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL, NOT A REPRODUCTION. WE ARE HAPPY TO SHIP WORLDWIDE. Please check out the other items we have for sale on this site. E-mail with any questions or requests for additional photos.
