One of the elements of Art Deco design which differentiates it from many/any other period, is it's bold use of color and typography: few other periods manage to integrate the use of such vibrant and dynamic blocks of color and design and to integrate them into a cohesive message which actually and effectively sells a product. This small gem for the French tobacco industry has all the hallmarks of excellence: it uses type to frame itself, in various colors, fonts and type sizes; it integrates the shadow of a man and woman to indicate that the product is able to be used by both sexes, and it has a dark background (as many Art Deco posters did) in order to grab and hold the viewers attention. This piece, though small, arguably has many of the design elements which can be found in much larger poster by the well known artists of the period like Cappiello, Vincent, Dion, and others. Poster measures11 x 13 inches, is linen backed and in very good condition. (This same piece is being sold on line for almost double the price, in an unlined state...)Ê
