Ernst Lubbert was a classic German artist of the Art Deco period. (German, 1879-1915) His hard-to-find works most often portray the haute monde, high society folks of German or Austrian background at events which seems to suit them best - dining, dancing, or just entertaining each other. His color palatte is usually restrained, but make sthe most of bold crimsons, reds, and usually black. Reminding us of Ludwig Hohlwien, a contemporary and country-man, Lubberts work makes us wish that Belle Epoque Berlin hadnt taken place almost 100 years ago. This poster for Cardinal, produced in 1911, is exceptionally beautiful, and like all of Lubbert's pieces, a must for collectors of Jugenstil, Art Deco and classic designs.
