Solitary pine hugs the surf on a rocky promentory. Angry sky and rough sea. Great color and detail. Simple gold frame. This is a Carmel Seascape by listed California artist Florence Upson Young. It is signed YOUNG in the foliage. She lived from 1872-1974 and is very well listed in Who''s Who in Pacific Coast painters. Listed also with by Edan Hughes in Who''s Who in American Art. She was widely exhibited in the Los Angeles Ebell Club and The Greek Theater. She studied in her early life with Kenyon Cox and William Meritt Chase. She was a founder of Friendly Arts Club and contributed to Horizons in Creative Art. This painting has lived with me since the early 1990''s and has hung over everyone of my fireplaces in every home I have lived. I love it''s earthy presence and that it was done by a California woman artist. The condition is very good.There are a few spots on the back of the painting.
