Late 19th century. Huge dramatic, oil on canvas painting executed in the manner of Tizian’s world famous painting “Venus of Urbino”, from c. 1583, now in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. The painting depicts Venus, the Roman goddess of beauty and fertility, seen as a reclining nude. The goddess is lying on a bed in the foreground. She is completely stretched out, hereby revealing the magnificence of her female body. Further back two attendants can be seen, presumably collecting Venus’ clothing. Apart from emphasizing the idealized beauty of the nude goddess in the foreground, the painting carefully depicts the interior with its fabulous marble floor and its classical column. This is a stunning painting with an enigmatic appearance. Unsigned, manner of the important Italian renaissance master Vecellio Tiziano (1485/89-1576). Tizian was the greatest painter of the Venetian School. Executed by a skilled hand. Newer simple wood frame. Painting in good original condition with no restorations.
