Original era manufacture. Standard pattern M1840 US Army NCO sword made by Ames, inspected by G.W.C, and dated 1864. Very clean 32 inch polished steel blade with clear markings on the ricasso and a very nice dark steel patina finish. The blade runs straight and true with no nicks in the edge or corrosion issues. No scabbard. Brightly polished cast brass guard and grip with a mellow brass patina. The guard is bent slightly downwards, perhaps done so as to not dig into the side of the wearer.
