Emile Albert Gruppe (American, 1896-1978) landscape painting of Vermont river in winter. Oil on artist board. Circa 1930. Size: 24" x 30". Excellent condition. Emile Gruppe studied at the National Academy of Design (NYC), at the Grange Chaumiere (Paris), and with John F. Carlson, Richard Miller, George Bridgman, Charles Chapman and Charles Hawthorne. Although he is best known for his depictions of harbors and coast lines along the North Shore of Massachusetts, he also had a home in Jeffersonville, Vermont, where he painted the countryside surrounding Mt. Mansfield.
