Emile Albert Gruppe (American, 1896-1978) landscape painting titled "Reflection, Vermont"; oil on canvas; dated 1966; 20" x 24"; offered in the original frame; signed lower right and signed, titled and dated on the stretcher. Excellent condition. This painting captures the essence of a Vermont autumn with a spreading birch tree in the foreground and a distant mountain reflected in the river behind. It is executed in a vibrant palette with broad, heavy brush strokes. Although Emile Gruppe is best known for his harbor scenes of the Mass. North shore, he also maintained a residence in Jeffersonville, VT where he painted the surrounding countryside, especially in winter.
