Ruth Pawson 1908-1994
Born in Stratford, Ontario in 1908, Canadian artist Ruth May Pawson moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, at an early age. She attended the Regina College of Art (c. 1940) where she studied practical art under Augustus Kenderdine and the History of Art and Art Appreciation under Professor Gordon Snelgrove. She graduated with an Associate of Fine Arts degree. Later she attended the Emma Lake Summer School where she did outdoor sketching under Kenderdine (1941, 1942 and 1946) and summer sessions at the Banff School of Fine Arts (1944, 1945 and 1947) under A.Y. Jackson. She became a teacher in elementary schools and also taught a children’s Saturday Morning Class at the Regina College of Art.
