Circa 1900. Fine Orientalist pastel signed E.T.W. Although I have been unable to figure out the artist's name from the initials, this small pastel is a wonderful example of the popular "Orientalist" style, with bright, un-dimmed colors and a charming sunset scene. In this picture a man rides a camel near a shoreline at sunset. He is leading a second animal and there are reflections of the palm trees on the water and shadows on the ground of him and the camels. This small work of art is very well framed by a textured gold mat and what I believe to be the original oak frame that has been painted gold in the recent past. This fine pastel is in exceptional original condition. The uneven color in our over-all picture is a reflection of light on the glass. The art is 8 5/8" x 5 5/8" . The frame size is 15 1/2" x 12 3/4". Price 250.
