Aldro Thompson Hibbard (American, 1886-1972) winter landscape painting titled "Up The Valley"; oil on artist board; 18" x 24"; signed lower right, titled on the reverse. Circa 1940. A classic winter scene by Hibbard, one of New England's best artists of the 20th century and an undisputed master of "plein aire" Vermont winter landscapes. This scene has been identified as the old Arthur E. Gleason farm on Rte. 30 in East Jamaica, VT (Hibbard's studio was located in Jamaica, VT). Only two of the buildings remain standing today, the barn and farmhouse having been torn down years ago. A small tag on the back notes that the painting was created in 1940.
