William Biscombe Gardner English landscape watercolor dated 1881, depicting sheep herders with their flock next to a coastal bluff. William Biscombe Gardner (1847-1919) was an English painter and engraver. Working in both watercolour and oils, he exhibited widely in London in the late 19th century at venues such as the Royal Academy and the Grosvenor Gallery. From 1896, he lived at Thirlestane Court. He illustrated a number of books featuring the British landscape. This lovely watercolour is signed bottom left, and is in very good original condition. The image measures 8.5 x 5.5 inches and the frame 12.5 x 15.5 inches.
