Description: A very decorative and beautifully hand-coloured double-hemisphere chart with Italian text below the image which explains the celestial systems and has depictions of the sun, moon, and the known planets. From Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi's Mercurio Geografico, this elegant chart is based on the work of the Italian astronomer Francesco Brunacci (1640-1703).
The image has been professionally framed with museum quality mounts and is displayed in a fine and complementary hand-crafted frame with gold leaf borders.

Additional Information: Giovanni Giacomo De Rossi (1627 - 1691) was a printer and publisher active in Rome during the 17th century. He inherited the printing business in 1633 from his father Giuseppe de Rossi (1570-1639), and by the mid 17th century the Rossi firm was considered the most active and important press in Rome. His major work, the atlas "Mercurio Geografico" was published from 1690 till 1714 in Rome, but the firm also did the printing work of greats such as Gimbattista Piranesi (1720-1778).
