France
19th century
This unusual 19th century floral was created using mother of pearl for the main elements of a bouquet of various flowers, tied with a blue ribbon. Those elements were then over-painted using translucent colored glazes, which allow the iridescence of the mother of pearl to shine through. Hand-written in ink on a thin strip of linen fabric attached to the reverse is,"Felicie Autier, Born in Paris Dec. 1st 1836." Framed in an oval walnut frame, with a brass accent and cream cloth mat. The measurements below are for the framed piece; the image itself is 8 1/2"h. x 5 1/2"w.
