Early American oil painting on board. Portrait of an early Colonial woman. Painting measures 8 1/2inches wide and 10 1/2inches long. Comes in ornate Rococco style frame, possibly original, measures 14 1/2 X 16 1/2inches.Sitter wearing dark dress. Good quality fabric and expensive pleats with little ruffled lacy collar and pink ribbon around her neck contrast beautifully with the austerity of the dress. The soft pink and white are beautifully echoed in her complexion. Wide penetrating eyes and soft silky hair, wonderfully depicted with tremendous sensitivity. No visible signature, but artist of great quality and proficiency. Condition is very good. Frame richly adorned with raised flowers, scrolls and shells in undulating, lobed raised form.
