Miniature painting of a lady in a silver frame. Circa 1710, most likely English and bears a strong resemblance to a miniature in the book on the subject from the Metropolitan Museum of Art (#101), identified as either Sophia Dorothea, later Queen of Prussia (daughter of George I) or, George II''s wife, Caroline of Ansbach. .Measures just over 1inch long and 1 1/2inch including entire length of frame.Oval, painted on vellum in watercolour. The lady''s blue eyes match her blue cloak, worn over a pink dress. Curly hair and fair skin. Painting shows great artistic skill and anatomical mastery.Frame is likely original to the period. The bottom ''clip'' of the frame broke off when we checked the item, otherwise condition is very good with no damage to the painting, which retains clarity and brightness of colour.
