Handpainted American naieve miniature portrait in oil on cardboard of a woman holding a pair of gloves. Painting measures 3 1/4 X 2 1/4inches and frame is 7 X 2 3/4inches.A rich young lady had her portrait painted wearing a huge red dress. Dark hair looped around her ears and a golden band with medallion on her forehead. Wonderful peaches and cream complexion. She holds a pair of golden/mustard coloured gloves in her hands. She wears at least two bracelets and a ring on her fourth finger. Fascinating depicting of an early American society lady. The frame is gold-coloured metal, probably brass with attractive foliage and floral swags. A ring at the top from which it can be hung. On the back of the painting (inside the frame), is an old lable that tells us that the painting is American naieve and the old price was $1250.00 (my price is not close to that). There is typical crazing to the paint, which is normal and acceptable of a work this age (well over 100 years old). There is also a scratch on the surface, top right corner, very clearly shown in the photos. It does not perforate beyond the paint.
