Rare Superb Early 19th C American Sea Captain Oil Portrait Painting Of Captain James Gilbert Of The Vessel "Jones" And/Or "Ezpelata" of Salem & Beverly, Massachusetts. The "Ezpelata" was a barque of 181 tons out of Salem, Mass. James Gilbert married on July 6th, 1826 to Sarah. It Is A Wonderful Early Portrait Of A Handsome Young Man In A Gold Waist Coat And Tall Stock And Cravat. Purchased In Completely Original Untouched Condition With Its Original Gilt Gesso Frame. Size 21" X 26" Original Surface Varnish. Purchased At Auction From The Direct Descendants Of Captain James Gilbert. Found In South Berwick, Maine. In An Attic With Dust, Neglect & Fly Spots On Him. Did Research On At The Peabody Essex Museum In Massachusetts. This Gem Is Going To Clean Up Currently Covered With Surface Dirt, Soot, & Grime.
