Exquisite antique French enamel painting depicting a beautiful lady examining her jewels from her jewelry box being held up for her inspection by an attending cherub. At her feet another cherub is pouring liquid from a large, gold jar into her bath. There is a griffin handled ewer and tray by the ladies feet. The painting is signed Th. Soyer. Theophile Soyer is listed as an important enamel painter who did historic subjects. He was born near Paris in the early 19th century. He exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1870. Enamels painted by Soyer are considered the finest quality 19th century enamels, the one we are offering may be one of his finest known works.
