Superb painting, oil on mahogany panel, from around 1850, by the highly listed Dutch/Belgian painter Adolphe Alexander Dillens ( 1821-1877)
The Dutch/Belgian artist Adolphe Alexandre Dillens produced mainly genre works after completing his studies at the academy in Ghent. He was inspired by scenes from everyday life in Zeeland and also by folk tales. His works are characterized by his clear compositions and use of rich colours and detail. The genre scene paintings by Dillens sell for over 20,000 US$ and are sold in US art galleries for even many many more. This genre scene " couple in love with dog, a Papillon dog" is superb, not cleaned, in the original state as it came from the estate. Signed lower left " A Dillens".
