Magnificent antique French enamel 18th century artist signed in gold in the lower right H. DOUBLET. Hubert Doublet, a listed French painter born in Paris, died January 8, 1719. Doublet's enamels are the most important and highest quality 18th and 17th century French enamels that exist today. This example is a superb composition depicting an artist pondering his next painting. Behind him two semi nude models vie for his attention. The colors, quality and composition of this extraordinary subject are the finest of any 18th or 17th century enamel extant. The enamel measures 10-1/2 inches high by 8 inches wide. The framed size 18-7/8 inches high by 16 inches wide. All 18th and 17th century French enamels are rare, very few have survived. This one is in excellent condition with no cracks or enamel loss. This is a museum quality enamel, fit for a king. Guaranteed to please the most particular collector or connoisseur. (Item #72506)
