Among the many events which Nostradamus predicted, one of them included an earthquake of gigantic proportion in California in the year 1982. As we all know, his prophecy never came to fruition. However in the months just prior to the foreseen event, people began to flee their homes in droves. Sicre has chosen to depict the mental and emotional distress of those involved in his painting “The Panic of Nostradamusâ€. The composition is filled with the dashing bodies of the fearful. As if trying to escape a burning building, the figures shove and climb over one another in an attempt to escape. The viewer gets a sense of the people's terror through the huddled group of figures. They encompass the entire area of the composition, causing a claustrophobic effect which visually revolves around itself in the center of the painting, leaving the viewer feeling trapped. - (JS.0001)Jorge Sicre - The Panic Of Nostradamus - JS.0001Dimensions: 48" (121.9cm) high x 36" (91.4cm) wide Collection: Contemporary Art Medium: Oil On Canvas
