In the painting “Villon’s Lover†we observe the radiant image of a medieval maiden, lover to the 15th century French poet François Villon. Villon was an alluring character whose vagabond lifestyle amongst the outcasts of Paris during the waning years of the middle ages matched his novel poetic style. He wrote both satirically and seriously about the earthiness and ribaldry of his time, mingling his poetic words with the restless individuality of the coming Renaissance. This striking maiden won the passionate love of Villon and surely many of his more amorous writings were inspired by her beauty. Here we see her gentle face softly illuminated, while waves of light and shadow surround her delicate form, echoing the feelings for Villon that quiver within her. - (ES.038)Endre Szasz - Villon's Lover - ES.038Dimensions: 22.5" (57.2cm) high x 14.5" (36.8cm) wide Collection: Contemporary Art Medium: Enamel On Porcelain
