Dressed in a coat, bow tie and derby hat, the man portrayed in Endre Szasz’s "The Bourgeois" attempts to conceal his middle class roots through his fancy attire. One look at his face, however, reveals bourgeois eyes that only address the earthly concerns of materialism, involvements that breed distrust and perhaps even dishonesty. Wild and mysterious patterns and images in the painting surround the man and adorn his clothing. A crouching, horned beast covers the front of the man's hat, representing the greedy and mischievous thoughts that lurk within the mind of this interesting figure. In this extraordinary painting the artist has clearly captured the dichotomy that exists between an elegant and refined veneer, and the true bourgeois man who resides within. - (ES.017)Endre Szasz - The Bourgeois - ES.017Dimensions: 18" (45.7cm) high x 26" (66.0cm) wide Collection: Contemporary Art
