A hand-coloured lithograph, matted and framed behind glass, by important artist, illustrator, ceramicist and graphic designer Sergei Vasil’evic Chekhonin (Russian, 1878-1936), signed in pencil l.r. and numbered l.l. 68/100.
It depicts a sophisticated bouquet of wild flowers expertly arranged in a tall footed futurist vase, most likely one of Chechonins’ own designs, resting on a table among lush patterned fabrics. The watercolor highlights and wash have been expertly added by hand to bring life and depth the images.
Dimensions: 18 ½†h. x 14 5/8†w. (not including margins)
Dimensions (framed): 34.5″ h. x 26″ w.
It is in Excellent Vintage Condition; for accuracies sake there is some overall light fading commensurate with age but overall the impression is strong and colourful, the hand-coloring is original and not added at a later date. It is framed and matted behind glass, ready for display.
A pair of these sold at Bloomsbury Auctions in 2008 for $19,000.
