Fine 20th C American Watercolor "Chinese Red Peonies" Artist: Tekla Moore Born in Connecticut and raised in the South, Tekla Moore studied art education and art history at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. In the early 90's, after a number of years working in traditional western styles of oil and watercolor, Tekla met Gan Yifei, a master painter in the Chinese brushstroke style. The beauty, power and tranquility of this style, aspiring to capture the life force (or “qiâ€), appealed to Tekla. The experience when seeing, feeling and then creating in this way has taken a strong hold in her work. Tekla has traveled to China twice for advanced training. In 2005 she studied with one of China's premier painters, Huang Jing, at the Southwest China Normal University in BeiBei. Then this past spring she had the opportunity to study at The Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China’s most prestigious visual arts institution. Both trips involved intensive study under the tutelage of watchful masters. " Life spent like this would be joyful indeed" ( anonymous) Tekla is an active artist residing in Kingston, New, York.
