FRANCE 1920 THIS INTRIGUING VIEW OF SMALL BOATS ON A FRENCH CANAL WITH DRAPED FACTORY BUILDINGS IN THE BACKGROUND IS AN OIL ON CANVAS BY LEONID BERMAN (1896-1976). AT THE TIME, BUILDINGS WERE DRAPED IN THIS WAY TO CONTAIN THE FACTORY EMISSIONS. THE ARTIST STUDIED IN PARIS AT THE ACADEMIE RANCON FROM 1919-1922. WHILE IN PARIS, HE STUDIED WITH VUILLARD , BONNARD, SERUSIER, MAURICE DENIS, AND VALLOTON. HE LATER MOVED TO NEW YORK.HE EXHIBITED WIDELY IN NEW YORK, PARIS AND LONDON FROM THE 1940'S -1960'S.
