Ohara Koson, Japanese, 1877-1945, color woodblock, "Gallinule next to flowering plants", image size: 13 3/4 x 7 7/16 inches, cat. k23.7, artist's mark in red ink lower left. Koson was part of a movement to revive the art of the Japanese woodblock during the late 19th and early 20th century. Though he occasionally produced landscapes and images of the Russo-Japanese war, he is most famous for his bird and flower prints.
