The fertile Nile Valley attracted people as early as 15,000 B.C., who settled along the banks to harvest wild grasses for cereal grains. Flint blades were made for this purpose, and also for hunting and war. What made this blade a perfect tool or weapon is the same element which makes it a work of art, namely its perfect balance and elegant simplicity. The shape is essentially triangular, divided into two sections, with the upper elongated portion rising to a slightly blunt end; and the sides of the lower part descending more quickly to a sharp point. The variegated surface is both rough and smooth, elemental yet sophisticated, pleasing to the eye and dramatic in its latent power. - (PF.4772)
