This wide-mouthed bell krater depicts a dancing draped female on the obverse. Wearing a sakkos, with a tambourine in her outstretched left hand and a fillet in the right, this charming figure conveys a convincing sense of movement. The composition of this female conforms to the popular ‘X’ shape. The field is dotted with rosettes and a laurel wreath as the painter clearly intended to make use of all the available space. A palmette design is visible to the right of the figure. The reverse shows a female head in profile, wearing a sakkos. The field is adorned with rosettes and a Doric column. The band beneath the rim is filled with a vertical line motif, whilst that near the base is a wave pattern. - (AM.0029)
