DescriptionFrom northern Peru, early Moche (Moche I/II), ca. 200 to 300 AD. Stirrup vessel down in blackware with spout at rear; monkey seated with arms holding knees to chest, very toothy mouth open and curled tail at reverse. Note accuracy of toes - great attention to detail! 8"H, intact/choice condition (the lines you see are not breaks, just variation in glaze).
