An outstanding ancient pottery bowl from the Paracas culture of south coastal Peru - ca 500 to 100 BC. Deep-black interior with exterior in dark brown; single human hand in center, resin-based, brick-red. 6-1/4"D x 2-1/8"H, intact and near-choice with minor losses to pigment - although some of this may have been incorporated into the design - and a possible stabilized crack in the base.
