Moche / Mochica, northern Peru, ca. 300 to 400 AD. Large ceramic storage jar (in almost-canteen form) decorated beautifully with Ai Apec (the major underworld god) standing in warrior regalia in relief. He is shown with toothy fangs, holding staff in one hand, large mace in the other. Shoulders of the vessel represent the high Andes Mountains that bordered the Moche lands. One of the finer vessels of this type that we have ever handled! Just over 8"H, excellent condition. Category:Moche Material:Pottery Dimensions:7"L Condition:Excellent
