Pre-Columbian, Cupisnique culture, Northern Peru, Ca 1400 - 1000 BC. The Cupisnique culture is closely related to, and some scholars believe same culture - different site, as the more famous Chavin culture. Characteristic heavy potted vessel with thick stirrup and a base depicting a spiny spondylus shell that was an important element of the Cupisnique culture for trade and decoration. 7-1/2"H, intact/generally excellent, save a bit of surface roughness.
