Uniquely fashioned 3 dimensional Chancay kupulwe or cradle board in an exceptional state of preservation. Ultra rare to see this type of depiction from the Chancay culture using the combination of these simple materials. Laid upon a bed of reed slats, an un-fired solid clay figurine is wrapped using a cotton textile blanket and secured with string between carved wooden beams. A substantial amount of personal care was given in its assembly. Coarse human hair is braided, then intertwined between wooden sticks to construct and secure the back platform. A fascinating piece of Chancay artistry and history.
