Very sweet jar! Jamacoaque culture of Ecuador, Ca 500 AD. Pottery effigy vessel in the form of a standing owl, face decorated with blue-green pigment, strap handle to rear. The ancient cultures worshiped the owl as the god of the night who helped the sun in its journey to the other side of the world each day. 4-3/4"H, handle appears re-attached, else very good. Rear covered in wonderful smattering of manganese deposits. If you ever want to study what the quintessential manganese blooms should look like, this vessel is perfect!
