Three animals and a basket of fruit provide the four major elements of this frieze. A hump-backed cow is lying comfortably amidst foliage at far left. He is nicely detailed with front feet tucked under, delineated dewlap and a gentle expression. A crane or stork is at center bending over to drink. Its long right long leg extends forward, while the sharp beak dips into the imaginary water. Next to him a plump goose stands upon a broad leaf peering over a wreath-like arrangement at the basket placed on its side. Lying on the ground or floating in the air are large ripe fruits-- pears, apples and pomegranates, all part of this charming pastoral scene. This mosaic has been reconstructed using ancient and modern materials. - (PF.5318)
