When Rome was in her golden age, some citizen of her empire might have sipped wine from this elegant cup. Perhaps that wine was the local vintage of the Lebanon, or it may have been imported from Gaul or the islands of Greece, all of which were part of Rome's domain. As we hold this lovely vessel in our hands today, we are aware of the touch of those ancient hands. When the glory of the classical age has vanished with time, it seems a miracle that this delicate vessel has survived to delight us today. - (GF.0158)
