Condition: Intact, Excellent.
Provenance: Ex: American private collection, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Measurements: 3.2 inches high (8 cms).
An attractive example of a group of vessels imitating grapes and pine cones. This flask is mold-blown in the shape of a pine cone design on its body. The neck is tubular with a splayed lip and in-folded rim. Iridescence on the interior. A very rare type of flask, specifically in the cone design.
Cf: Toledo, Mold-blown, no. 112, p. 182, which is an earlier version with a charecteristic 1st century A.D. type. The lip on our specimen suggests a later date closer to the larger specimens from Trier, p. 27, no. 4, and Pittsburgh, no. 69, pl.72, which are dated to the 4th Century.
