Culture; Roman. Date: 1st Century A.D. Material: Mosaic glass. Condition: Intact, tiny chip to rim. Provenance; Ex; American private collection, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Measurements: 3.25 inches high (8.5 cms). Made of vertical canes of opaque white, translucent honey-brown, and translucent yellow-brown glass. Created by a process involving casting and then blowing, such mosaic flasks are distinguished by swirling ribbons of colored glass throughout their structure. They are also called "colored band" and "marbled glass". This piece has a bulbous lower section which gradually extends into a slightly flared shoulder area and then into a long tubular neck with splayed lip.
