Seljuk Brass Ewer with Incised Decoration - LK.032, Origin: Central Asia, Circa: 11 th Century AD to 13 th Century AD, Dimensions: 9.75" (24.8cm) high, Collection: Islamic Art, Style: Seljuk, Medium: Brass and Copper. This is a pear-shaped ewer standing on a rather high slopping foot. It has a simple raised collar at the base of the neck. The undulated strap handle consists of a bold palmette finial topped with a knob. The exterior of the body is incised with two horizontal registers of calligraphic scripts stating well-being to the owner. Motifs of harpies, griffins and vases also dominate the surface of the belly of the ewer. These motifs are very common in Seljuk art.
