Green Glass Bottle - OF.114, Origin: Central Asia, Circa: 800 AD to 900 AD, Dimensions: 3.8" (9.7cm) high, Collection: Islamic Art, Style: Mold Blown/Tooled, Medium: Glass. The bottle has a thickened white rim, a cylindrical slightly everted neck, flat shoulder, wide cylindrical body, and a concave base with a pontil mark. The decoration consists of diagonal ribbings on high relief on the body; the ribs are horizontally grooved, giving the appearance of a woven basket. The surface of the object is partially weathered, resulting in a whitish milky patina, giving it a marbelised appearance. Both the shape of this vessel and the type of opening seem to point to an early period of Islamic glass production, probably before the eleventh century and more likely in the tenth.
