At first he showed great promise, but he w as very unpopular with the senatorial nobility and this resulted in numerous plots and conspiracies. Domitian, who was suspicious by nature, reacted violently, and the last years of his reign were ones of terror and oppression. He was eventually murdered on September 18th, 96 A.D., as the result of a palace plot involving his wife, Domitia, his chamberlain and the Praetorian prefect. - (FJ.5062)
